The Department of Chinese Language and Literature of College of Liberal Arts at Lanzhou University has a long history, originating from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature， National Lanzhou Sun Yat-sen University，founded in 1928. After the founding of new China, it was subordinate to the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. In 2004, it became the basic major of College of Arts in Lanzhou University.
