The School of Liberal Arts of Lanzhou University has a long history of running schools. In 1928, the Department of Chinese Language of Lanzhou Sun Yat-sen University was established. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature was established.In 2004, the name was changed to the School of Liberal Arts. As one of the earliest Chinese disciplines in China, the college has inherited a strong academic tradition in the humanities. With the hard work of several generations, it has formed a stable, realistic and enterprising style of study. It has cultivated a large number of talents for the country and they have  also made important contributions to the construction and development of Chinese during the 20th century, winning a good social reputation. In the new century, the School of Liberal Arts of Lanzhou University will continue to strengthen discipline construction, enrich faculty, and improve teaching facilities in accordance with Lanzhou University’s mission of "doing Western essays and creating a first-class university", make greater contributions in order to build Lanzhou University into a comprehensive, research-oriented, Well-known high-level universities at home and abroad.
